The Cody Country Art League is pleased to be working with the Buffalo Bill Art Show & Sale committee to offer workshops with their artists. This presents a great opportunity for artists in Cody Country to take workshops with well known artist-instructors without having to travel long distances. This series is open to all area artists, whether they are CCAL members or not.

You can download the materials list below. If you are in need of anything, Gestalt Studios in Powell has most if not all the art materials for this class. Please support this important local business if possible. They are a great group and willing to help us with supplies for all of our future classes and workshops.
We had 28 people there and the food was just great. The Board went over tentative plans including the schedule, ideas for some new initiatives and asked for questions and comments from the members. This resulted in some great discussions and ideas. Some of the latter can be implemented soon, while others are a bit beyond our present capabilities. The Board was delighted to have such really active participation by the members.
Three upcoming workshop instructors outlined the content of and the benefits their attendees would receive from their classes. Jody Horvath provided the same for several other planned workshops.
Next, the meeting minutes will go out to the entire membership and more complete outlines of the new initiatives will also go out asking for signups. If sufficient are received, these will be gradually implemented.
This workshop will be taught by professional artist Elizabeth N. LaRowe. The class is designed for artists who have some watercolor experience. She will demonstrate and teach techniques, processes and share her unique finishing techniques that eliminate the need for artwork framed with glass.
Ms. LaRowe holds a B.F.A. degree from the University of Denver and a M.A.T. from the University of Wyoming. Retiring after teaching many years, she knows how to present information in a concise clear manner.

Marie Shirley-Jones from Red Lodge will be here to guide us through a dyeing process that ensures success. Students will paint thickened dye onto fabric and also use dry dye for an exciting twist.
There will be lots of stencils and printing blocks to assist you, or you can come with a plan of your own. You will take your runner home at the end of class, where you will rinse it five days later. The permanently dyed runner can be washed in your machine for years to come. No previous artistic experiences necessary.
Karen Petrovich will be the instructor. Learn new and innovative techniques to add depth and interest to oil paintings. Make very narrow straight or curved lines, swatches of thin to thick paint that cast minute shadows - there is much to be gained by employing this oft overlooked toolset. Let this course take you way beyond just mixing your colors!
Karen will also discuss framing techniques and the types of frames to use with different types of artwork.
Instructor Cate Crawford will demonstrate proper technique and introduce you to materials to make your learning journey a smooth one! This class is perfect for beginners or even for those with a bit of experience who want to gain a strong foundation and approach to calligraphy. Cate will work with each student individually.
Focus will be on the Foundational Hand --which is also known as Roman Roundhand. This beautiful hand was predominant in the 10th Century and is praised for its legibility in manuscripts as well as for being the most logical starting point to learn. Students will use simple tools (starting with pencils) and work up to the broad-edged pen with ink. We will also cover the use and care of equipment. At the end of the class, all students will have a completed project to demonstrate their progress.
Cate is an accomplished calligrapher with over forty years of experience in calligraphy, graphic design and fine arts. She has taught hundreds of students from beginning to advanced levels the art of calligraphy and was an instrumental force in the formation of the first calligraphy guilds in NC in the 1980s. Her work has appeared in Letter Arts Review. Cate has studied with many of the great calligraphers of the 20th C. and is extremely excited to bring this art form to Wyoming. Her teachers include Sir Donald Jackson (UK), Peter Thornton (UK), Ann Hechle (UK), John Stevens (US), Thomas Ingmire (US), Sheila Waters (UK/US), and numerous others.
After earning her BFA magna cum laude at the University of North Carolina in 1977, Cate owned and operated a successful design studio for ten years in downtown Raleigh, NC, where she designed and created thousands of custom commemorative and commercial calligraphy projects. Cate also worked in university, state government and private industry in the fields of illustration, publishing and design. She has received national awards for her designs.
